Twaimarika works with the unemployed and financially marginalized in Kenya.

Why Who we serve

Using a long term empowerment program, we have designed our program to meet the specific needs of vulnerable populations.

Women

We seek out Women in communities where they are most marginailized. We empower them with training programs that build hope. We engage them in income generating activities, encourage them to save and work with our partners to meet their basic needs in the short term. We work with them in the long run to empower them attain a financially sustainable lifestyle.

Men

It is generally acknowledged that men earn higher than Women in Kenya. However, for the majority, their earning capacity cannot sufficiently sustain a family. This has led to despair among children and youth within those families and in many cases, broken families with an increased number of single parents. Improving the earning capacity of men will lead to stable families and a lower number of poor families and individuals.

Youth

Kenya has a very large concentration of young people in the world, with close to 60% of its population under the age of 25. Although the overall unemployment in Kenya is at 12.7 percent, Youth (15 – 34-year-olds), who form 35 percent of the Kenyan population, have the highest unemployment rate of 67 percent. Over one million young people enter the labour market annually without any skills some having either dropped out of school or completed school and not enrolled in any college.
